I rarely have that feeling that my chest is tightening, nevertheless it happens that I am overwhelmed with emotions that are not mine.

I caught somebody stealing one day because I sensed him.

It was because of meditation, that I ended up being an empath.
I try to shield but not too much, because the information of the feeling is very helpful. Especially in posts in forums, it can help you finding out how the poster felt while writing.

Wow that is awesome..you are a really strong empath!
The ability just came naturally to me...I had it for a long time but never recognized that I did have it...I thought everyone felt emotions.

I agree with you...being an empath can be very helpful....I try not to shield because it helps others.

For me it came with the time, and I think it was a good development.
In the beginning I wasn't an empath at all, nothing could get through to me. But that was the time I needed to find 'my-self'.
Only then I opened up to others, but only 'deeper' than I expected.

May I ask what are your reactions when you feel sadness from another being?

It depends.
First of all it 'shocks' me quite a bit, that normally I feel more fear and anger in people every day than sadness, because it is easier to get close to those who are sad.

As often people talk to me quite easily, I try to be around those people to see if I can help them helping themselves.

Yeah these days that is mostly what I feel.
But at times I feel a sudden sadness from someone and I try to talk to them and help them out.

I was shocked to learn that the tightening of ones' chest is when you have taken on someone else's emotions? is this true? I do this alot recently and I caught the angels telling me that I was soaking them up like a sponge.

It's a new area to be walked on for me, I try to protect as often as I can do not get me wrong. I pick up the energies the thoughts the whole lot sometimes. I have resulted in almost living out side as much as possible.

It's an area where I am within me but expressive out I don't realise it's not my own emotions.

Yes matt when the emotions are intense that is exactly what happens.
I also try to shield at times from other emotions..I don't believe its wrong.

What technique do you use to shield from someone else's emotions?

I def have those feelings, have had them since I was prolly 12 or so. At times they overwhelm me. I use to meditate and/or shield but found it wasn't always helpful and instead made things worse.

I found an awesome link regarding why you are an empath. If I can find it I'll post it. It helped me a lot to understand my gift - to see it as a gift and not a burden I thought it was.
